So, I am taking you into my bedroom today, it had been a while since we found ourselves here, one on one. I had gone to Zara looking for one single thing, and I came out with a genuine obsession for polka dots. The worst part is that the three pieces I brought back wear exactly the same print… and that once put on, they do not tell the same story at all. I had been waiting years for the return of the polka-dot trend, so let me tell you, the choice is going to be heartbreaking. We try it all on together, and you will tell me which one truly deserves its place in my wardrobe.
The mini skirt-short, my first favourite
Let’s start with the piece that set it all off, a polka-dot mini skirt-short, with a little belt that fastens with a sliding buckle.
The look of a skirt, the comfort of a short
That is the whole genius of this piece, you get the femininity of a skirt and the comfort of a short hidden underneath, and for summer, believe me, that detail changes absolutely everything. I paired it with a very simple black bodysuit, just to let the polka dots take up all the space. I love its retro-chic side, it transports me to the French Riviera, with that 1950s inspiration brought up to date. A stroll, a seaside restaurant, a day when you want to be comfortable without giving up style, that is exactly its territory.
The right heel to set it off
To finish the outfit, I chose Cosy Island heels with an open toe, fastened by a fine ankle strap, which bring that irresistible little pin-up touch. It is the kind of detail that tips an outfit from “cute” to “really elegant”.
The cream dress, the most romantic but the least wearable
On to the second, a cream-coloured dress that fastens at the back and ties at the front with a pretty flow.
A bow that makes the whole dress
Let’s be honest, it is the most romantic of the three, and that little tied bow at the front is what gives it all its charm. The small sleeves delicately cover the shoulders, it is dressy, elegant, the kind of dress that makes you want to go for a drink on a terrace or wander through a seaside town. I had a real soft spot for it.
The flaw that changes everything
But here is my reservation, and it is a big one, its fabric. On the outside, nothing to say, except that the lining makes the dress thick and heavy, and at thirty degrees, it is quite simply unbearable. Even without air conditioning in my room, I could already feel the heat, so outside, I cannot even imagine. That is exactly why it does not make the podium, despite all the love I have for it. The skirt keeps its first place.
The long bustier dress, the 1950s pin-up spirit
Let’s finish with the most spectacular, a long bustier dress, whose side fastening makes it, a nice surprise, much easier to put on alone than the previous one.
The poise it gives
The cut of the bustier recalls the 1950s pin-up silhouettes, while staying very modern, and it nicely frees the upper chest, which gives an elegant poise. With my Cosy Island heels, the retro effect is complete. A little amused confession, it seems designed for a chest a little more generous than mine, and I do not quite fill it… but the opening on the side is, I believe, intentional, and honestly, it does not bother me. We will make do with what nature provided.
Zara pulled it off
Deep down, it is a lovely lesson in style, the same print can change everything depending on the cut and the fabric, and comfort always ends up settling what the soft spot cannot decide. For the heels, it is Cosy Island on all three outfits, with the code YT10WILDY if the brand tempts you, I leave it for you with no pressure.
